The IOSH Managing Safely E-Learning course is aimed at anyone in a working role who wants to learn the basics of Health & Safety. As the qualification is all online and delivered through our own E-Learning platform, this course is perfect for those who are wanting to gain a recognised safety qualification through flexible delivery in a single programme.


Course Structure

To gain the IOSH Level 2 Managing Safely qualification, you must complete 7 learning units, and 2 final assessments consisting of an online test and a practical assessment. You must log 24 hours of study time before the online assessment will be released for you to complete. A successful pass of the online assessment will unlock the practical assessment.

Unit 2: Assessing Risks

Unit 3: Controlling Risks

Unit 4: Understanding Responsibilities

Unit 5: Understanding Hazards

Unit 6: Investigating Incident

Unit 7: Measuring Performance



The IOSH Managing Safely qualification is assessed in two parts: the multiple choice online assessment and the practical assessment.

The multiple choice online assessment is a chance for you to demonstrate what you have learnt throughout the course, and is a 45 minute long test. Successful completion of this will automatically unlock the practical assessment.

The practical assessment is to complete a risk assessment of your place of work to identify, report and conclude. You must show how to apply the knowledge you have gained throughout the course to real-life situations. The practical assessment must be submitted within 2 weeks.

An IOSH Managing Safely certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of both parts of the assessment. Please note that all IOSH certificates are now digital. 


Access and Support

You will have access to the online E-Learning portal for 6 months. IOSH permit 2 attempts at the final assessment.

Membership with Professional Bodies

Candidates may apply to the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health for membership at Associate level.
